CULTURE OF WESTJET

CULTURE

What westjet say in their ads is true: "Owners Care." Sure, it is the Westjet that fly you places, yet its truly their people who get you there. In fact, their whole corporate culture has been built around looking after you, their visitors, by giving an incredible visitor experience.

After claiming top spot in Waterstones' study of Canada's 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures for four years, Westjet was enlisted into its Hall of Fame in 2010. In 2011 Westjet was designated as a J.D. Power Customer Service Champion (one of two organizations in Canada and the only airline to make the list ), positioned third in Aon Hewitt's best employers in Canada and was chosen as the Canadian airline with the best flight attendents by flightnetwork.com. Senior executives with Canada's top 1,000 open and private firms cited Westjet more than any other company, selecting it over the Royal Bank of Canada, doughnut icon Tim Hortons and Canadian Tire Corp.

"Culture means a lot of things," Bell said. "It drives profit, it drives security, it drives customer service. One of the remarks Westjet get from their clients constantly is, 'How do they make their people look like they enjoy their job?' It's not something you can prepare or impart - its something that must be felt."Culture is a simple thing for Westjet representatives to discuss - that is the thing that makes the company interesting," said Marty Parker, managing director of Waterstone Human Capital, which conducted the yearly study. "It's not a simple thing for most associations to define." Westjet's public identity - modelled somewhat after U.S. low cost pioneer Southwest Airlines - is frequently commended as the career's single-most amazing intense advantage.

Westjet merits for developing a praiseworthy culture that sets it separated from other companies, said Karl Moore, a senior business professor at Mcgill University who nearly accompanies the airline industry. "Westjet individuals are known for their sense of humour and having a particular stake in the company as part owners. Even the advertising reflects that," he said.
