HISTORY

Westjet was established in 1996 by Clive Beddoe and a group of like-minded partners, who believed that just because you pay less for your flight, doesn't mean you should get less.

Armed with that philosophy, three airplane, five destinations and 220 friendly Westjetters, they started their journey - a trip that would help them turn into an organization of more than 9,700 passionate Westjetters flying one of the youngest fleets of Boeing 737 Next-Generation aircraft to more than 88 destinations across their network. Their continued efforts toward responsible growth consider their impact to the environment, to the groups where they fly and to and the individuals they arrive on a daily basis.

Today, WestJet is Canada’s leading high-value low-fare airline offering scheduled service to 76 destinations in Canada, the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean,with its fleet of 98 Boeing Next Generation 737 aircraft. And the organization's not completed the process of developing yet. This past June, Westjet Encore brought to the air with its new Bombardier Q400 Nextgen turboprop aircraft, expanding WestJet’s regional reach . WestJet has also gained an international presence through code-offer associations with carriers situated in the U.S., Europe and Asia.New bundled fares offer increased choice for the company’s ever-expanding base of business travellers, while the rewards program and vacation- packaging wings also continue to expand and evolve.

So yes, you might say that a lot has changed since the mid-1990s. But the one thing that hasn't changed is Westjet's people first approach. That approach has earned the organization honors for its visitor relations, but it’s also an inherent part of WestJet’s corporate culture—for staff on the front lines, as well as for those in the corner offices.
